She covered sports for some of the biggest media outlets across the nation. It was a long time working for The Washington Post covering football basketball, soccer, numerous Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. In 2004 Nichols was transferred to ESPN for nine years in which she earned two Emmy Awards and appeared on several of the network's top watched programs, like SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. Unguarded was a program that she co-produced and hosted was telecast every day on CNN International. The show drew more than one-billion viewers in the whole globe. At the time, Nichols was a reporter for TNT's NBA broadcasts including playoffs, regular season, and All-Star broadcast teams. The reporter also reported on golf, baseball and Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. It was only the second time in the company's 42 years that a woman was chosen from over 200 nominations.
